CWSL SPORTSMANSHIP EXPECTATIONS
The league
expects all participants, coaches, parents, and players alike to strive for
the highest standards and conduct, both on and off the field. The following
is a guide toward achieving those standards.
COACH
Consider the maturity level
of your players in all your dealings with them.
Teach your players that the rules of the game are mutual agreements that
no on should break or evade.
Never ridicule or demean players for making a mistake, or for losing a
game.
Never encourage players to set out to injure and opponent, or to be please
if an injury should happen. Remember always that youth players need a
coach whose example they can look up to and respect. By your example, you
should teach them:
To respect opponents,
coaches, and officials.
To accept losses with grace, and never to blame officials for a loss.
To appreciate the good play of opponents, as well as of teammates.
PLAYERS
Play the game by the rules,
as laid out by FIFA and the CWSL
Play as hard and as well as
you can.
Do not argue with referees
decisions.
Control your temper, on and
off the field.
Work as hard for your team
as for yourself.
Never bully or take unfair
advantage of another player.
Treat all players,
teammates and opponents alike, as you would like to be treated.
Never set out to injure or
demean an opponent.
Respect you coach, your
teammates, your opponents, and the officials. Without them you have no
game.
Accept the results of the
game. Never whine or complain.
PARENTS
Always remember that youth
players are involved in soccer for their benefit.
Encourage your sons and
daughters to play by the rules.
Teach your sons and
daughters that honest effort is as important as victory.
Never ridicule or demean
your sons and daughters for making a mistake, or for losing a game.
Never ridicule or demean
players, coaches, or fans of an opposing team.
Show appreciation of good
plays by all players, both those on your team and on the opposing team.
Do not attack the decisions
of officials, and never question their honesty.
Support all efforts to
remove verbal and physical abuse from the game of soccer.
Recognize the importance
and value of all officials and volunteer coaches. They give of their time
and resources to provide competitive opportunities for your sons and
daughters.
Act with an awareness that
young people learn best by example.
The above code of conduct
sets a very high standard, and one we should all strive to reach. It is
not all inclusive, however, it does not try to cover all possible
situations. In any case, no code of conduct can be a substitute for real
sportsmanship, which comes from within. True sportsmanship proceeds from a
spirit of honest respect, respect for the game, respect for oneself,
respect for coaches, respect for officials, respect for teammates, and
respect for opponents. While it may not be possible to live up to such a
high standard at all times, and in every way, the Central Wisconsin Soccer
League reserves the right to discipline and team, club, or individual
coach, player, or parent who flagrantly or persistently violate the
expected spirit of sportsmanship represented here.
